Warren Chair Works' Contemporary Furniture @ Wrentham Antiques

Come Meet
JC Bellman
of
Warren Chair Works

Saturday, January 30th from 1-4 pm

JC will be on hand to discuss the many aspects that went into the conception, design and crafting of Warren Chair Works' newest addition, the Contemporary Line of handcrafted furniture.  Warren Chair Works, over the last 25 years has specialized in the art of making high quality, early American, reproduction furniture.  The Contemporary Line stands out as a natural extention of the years of refining the techniques and economy of scale that has made the Warren Chair Works furniture so desirable, accessable and affordable for those who have become disallutioned with most of today's modern furniture.

The common thread in all of Warren Chair Works' furniture is the use of solid woods and 18th century techniques.  From the butt-joint and biscuted table tops to the mortese, tendon and pin leg joinery, each piece of furniture is destined to become an antique for future generations to enjoy.

The signature of the Contemporary Line is the sublte theme of opposing and sweeping curves made with unstained, natural grain finished, solid cherry or walnut woods.  A pin stripe of tiger maple highlights each edge giving off a rich physical and visual texture which draws the eye and hand alike inspiring an irresitable need to be experienced.

The chairs are the perfect compliment as the combination of solid cherry or walnut, maple and tiger maple woods accent the hand joined spindles, rails and other turnings with the seats offering a prominent display of natural grain.  These chairs are very comfortable and will stand up to the modern lifestyle of the most demanding home.
The Contemporary Line will be on display for a limited time, through the month of January.  So, come in because to see this furniture is to truly appreciate it's inherent appeal.

Let's Do What We Can: The Tibetan Rug Non-Profit Program!

The weavers are Tibetan refugees in Nepal, supporting themselves and preserving their culture to bring works of art to our homes. The wholesale profits go to education of Tibetan refugees, reforestation in Tibet, and projects to benefit Tibetan refugees.

For centuries rug weaving has been more than a craft in Tibet. It has been part of the culture. Now these peoples are turning carpet weaving into self-sufficiency by joining non-profit cooperatives that plow profits back into the community in the form of school building, reforestation, and arts projects. As they struggle for economic progress, they achieve something just as important to them: cultural survival.

Come and meet the importer, Vito Nicastro, on Saturday, April 4th from 11-4. Ask, listen and absorb the culture and time honored traditions of these remarkable people as Vito pages through their works of art.

Here are a few of the rugs that you will see, feel and experience when you visit us at Wrentham Antiques.

Flower Offering:

3' x 5'-10"

A mixture of traditional Tibetan motifs in the border. In the field, a Metok Bumpa or "Flower Offering" rendered entirely in handcarded, handspun, vegetally-dyed long-staple himalayan wool.

Coin:

3' x 5'-9"

One of the richest of all Tibetan carpet designs is the Thamka, or coin-medallion. This carpet has two mirror-image tibetan coin medallions suspended over a deep aubergine field with a border that changes color to indigo blue in the center. That border, the Bashaer, is replete with Tibetan dress costume ornaments and jewelry.

Leaves:

8' x 10'-11"

Interpreted from the nature around them, the Tibetans who wove this carpet did the design entirely in silk. The background is wool.

Gaon Naksha:
6' x 9'-2"

What if you could travel to India, north to Nepal, into the foothills of the Himalayas? What if you could go penetrate into remote valleys and meet the Tibetan exiles who live there? Could you communicate with them and find out how they see the world? When they look out through their eyes, what do they see? This carpet is one answer to that. It is woven spontaneously in a home and tells the story of Gaon Naksha, Village Life.

Identify Your Elegant Glass of the Depression Era & Benefit the Local Food Bank!

You are invited to attend a special event at Wrentham Antiques Center! Please join us for a showing of "Elegant Glass of the Depression Era" now through April 30th.

To kick off this promotion, Wrentham Antiques Marketplace on Rte. 1A in Wrentham, will have a special IDENTIFY YOUR GLASSWARE DAY to benefit the local food pantry on Sunday, March 29th from 12 to 4. (The pantry receives many donations at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but donations are greatly needed and appreciated at Easter, too!)

Ever wonder what the name of the pattern is of those fancy etched wine glasses your great aunt Myrtle left you? Now is your chance to find out. Here's how it works- just bring in a non-perishable food item to donate to the food pantry, and one CAREFULLY wrapped glass item from the late 1800’ss-1950's. We will do our best to look up the pattern and manufacturer for you!

We couldn't fly Gene Florence, Glass expert and Guru, in for the day, so we have the next best thing...our own in-house dealer, Kim May will be on hand to meet and greet you with her personal collection of over 50 glassware identification books and her 35 years of experience! Refreshments will be served and there will be a raffle drawing of a silver tray with wine glasses and decanter, plus 2 gift certificates to local restaurants.!

Hope to see you there!
